Literary strategies to represent orality in the novels of the peruvian author Mario Vargas Llosa are at stake in this essay. Based on the results of research on orality and literacy, the book shows how Mario Vargas Llosa is able to transpose characteristics of the oral speech into the written media. Besides the enormous variety of forms of presenting speech in the different author’s novels, the study demonstrates that the impression of "hearing" the voices of the characters not only is reached because of the use of peruvian Spanish but also because of the manner, how their speech is presented and marked through literary discourse.
